Change of idea....

After a talk with my tutor, I have come to the conclusion that it would be a lot less stressful and more achievable to change my idea to something shorter. So, I have decided to change my idea to an advert as I excelled in the last one. For this I have chosen to do an advert for Guinness but this time I will attempt to avoid the problems I encountered previously; acting talent, camera work etc.
I have already made new storyboards, a camera script and have made preparations to shoot. It will be a short, easy shoot with just one person in front of the camera.
As this is a new idea I have undertaken some new research by watching previous Guinness adverts and also by looking under the 'alcohol' section on the Advertising Standards Authority site.
The main rule is thus: 'Advertisements for alcoholic drinks should not be targeted at people under 18 years of age and should not imply, condone or encourage immoderate, irresponsible or anti-social drinking.'

After looking at this along with the corresponding definitions and rules, I have come up with an idea:

The advert will begin with a man wearing dark clothes walking through/across a grassy hill carrying a shovel/pickaxe and a satchel. Once he gets to his location he puts down his satchel, looks into the distance and then strikes the ground with the shovel/pickaxe. At that moment, 'oil' sprays from the ground and goes everywhere, all over the man as he smiles. It keeps spraying as he pulls a Guinness pint glass from the satchel. He lifts it into the air in joy as the 'oil' continues spraying. At the end of it, a pint of Guinness is revealed and he lifts it into the air with a wide shot. An edited version of Dropkick Murphys' cover of The Who's 'Baba 'o Riley' will be playing over the advert and at the end will cut to a generic Guinness advert ender with the slogan 'Made of More'.

Constraints

  • Time: I have around 6-7 weeks to film, edit and finish the project. I have to be careful with filming times and make sure I have enough time for it all.
  • Costs: For my project, I may need a budget to afford some props, costumes, locations and transportation and catering costs for the cast an crew.
  • Personnel: I'll have to make sure I have reliable, conscientious cast and crew members who can do well on camera and work to their fullest. I have to make sure I don't waste too much time trying to find suitable people.
  • Resources: I'll have to make sure I have absolutely everything I need to shoot; the right props, the right locations, the right costumes, makeup and the right time. More importantly, the right equipment.
  • Legal & Ethical Considerations, Copyright, Laws: In the production, writing, content and execution of my project I will, at all times, have to consider any misrepresentations of certain stereotypes. This won't be a major problem for my production.
  • BBFC: I also need to consider my audience and as such consider the guidelines of the British Board of Film Classification.

Pre-production

Questionnaires are done but I haven't printed them off yet to gather primary research. The storyboards and camera script are done, I have done research into B-movies and my idea, I've made a mood board and I've even started looking for potential actors/actresses. I will fill in the location risk assessment forms for all the locations today as well
